What is a Coin SorterA coin sorter is a machine or system that sorts mixed coins into their separate denominations using either a mechanical or manual process. How does it work? All coin sorters rely on the fact that each coin is a slightly different size and so if the coins are passed over holes of varying size the coins will drop through in a specific order. Many coin sorters are also coin counters and use various different sensors to count the coins as they are sorted.
Most coin sorting machines drop the sorted coins into hoppers or containers and can be set to pause when the number of coins of a specfic type reaches a set limit. This allows users to easily bag the coins ready for banking. Why do people use Coin Sorters?Coin sorters are used by a wide variety of businesses who deal with mixed coins such as charities, retailers, vending companies, car parks etc. Businesses use coin sorters mainly because it saves time compared with doing it manually. The coins need to be sorted in order to be deposited into the bank account or if they are simply keeping it in the safe over night, the coins need to be bagged so the owner can count it all up easily and quickly. If you have a large amount of mixed coins together and you do not have a coin sorting machine or coin counting machine you have a very time consuming task prior to banking. Some Heavy Duty coin sorters also have the facility to reject and remove foreign or damaged coins from a batch of mixed coins. This is usually achieved by using a complex sensor which analyses the metal content of each coin as it passes the sensor and comparing the result with a known database of allowed coins. If the sensor shows that the coin in question varies from the database by a significant degree then that coin is quickly pushed out out the mechanism into a reject holder. This is especially useful for organisations such as charities who may receive foreign coins in coin collections. |
